A Life of Love: Reflecting God’s Heart

"By this, all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." – John 13:35

Loving God and loving others lie at the very core of our faith. Yet, in the busyness of life, it is easy to lose sight of what this truly means. How do we actively live out this commandment in a way that is both practical and deeply meaningful?

Loving God begins with relationship—it is about seeking Him daily, listening to His voice, and aligning our hearts with His will. When we spend time in His presence—through prayer, worship, or simply sitting in silence—we draw closer to Him and begin to understand the depth of His love. True love for God is more than words; it is a daily surrender, a longing to know Him, and a willingness to walk in His ways. When we allow His love to fill us completely, it overflows into the lives of those around us.

Love is the very essence of God. When we choose to love others, we reflect His character and draw nearer to Him. "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God." – 1 John 4:7. True love is not merely an emotion; it is an intentional act—choosing to put others before ourselves, extending kindness, and offering grace even when it is not deserved.

There will be days when loving others feels difficult. People may hurt us, disappoint us, or test our patience. In a world filled with distractions, hurried schedules, and self-interest, it is easy to overlook those around us. Yet, when we look at Jesus’ time on earth, we see that He stepped into the noise, the inconvenience, and the lives of the overlooked. He touched the untouchable, embraced the rejected, and sought out the lost.

God’s love is boundless, and through His strength, we can choose to love even when it is difficult. Love heals, unites, and restores. It is the greatest gift we can offer—and the greatest one we can receive.

Reflection: How can we show God's love to someone today? It might be through a word of encouragement, a small act of kindness, or simply being present for someone in need. Every day we have opportunities to show love…how can we be intentional?

Prayer: Lord, help us to love You with all our heart, soul, and mind. Let that love pour out into our relationships, so that others may see You in us. Teach us to love even when it’s difficult, and to be a light in the lives of those around us. Amen.
