Held by a Lavish Love

Watch a child run into the arms of someone they trust. They don’t hesitate. They don’t wonder if they belong. They know they are loved. That kind of fearless belonging is what John wants us to understand about God. In 1 John 3:1, he writes, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are.” This is not a future promise. This is your present identity. God has already called you His child.

Proverbs 3:5-8 (ESV)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.
Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.

Proverbs 1 tells us that wisdom starts with having fear of the Lord. Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.” As we continue to read through the chapter we see that God gives us a warning of what happens when we reject wisdom and gives a condition.
James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” This verse is such a comforting reminder that God is not stingy with His wisdom. He wants to guide us in every decision, big or small.
